What We Do

Talitha Cumi is based in the red-light district of Angeles City, Philippines.  We're breaking new ground, beginning our work here to first build relationship with the girls working in the bars and brothels, to learn their names, and hear their stories. Offering our home as a place of refuge, for one night of safety or even just a cup of tea.  We want to provide a local, immediately available alternative venue for finding belonging, community, affirmation and a sense of identity other than the bars and clubs on the streets of Angeles.  We will facilitate healing and freedom through conversation, art, and deep relationship; while implementing women support groups throughout the area.  The groups will serve as a safe community and network to help girls who want to get out of the sex trade, as well as a support system for the girls still within.

“I used to pray that God would feed the hungry, or do this or that, but now I pray that he will guide me to do whatever I’m supposed to do, what I can do. I used to pray for answers, but now I’m praying for strength. I used to believe that prayer changes things, but now I know that prayer changes us and we change things.”
